The Home of Lucia
One of the presumed houses of the protagonist of The Betrothed, in the Lecco district of Acquate
At the time of the novel, The Betrothed, Acquate was a locality detached from the municipality of Lecco but now is a district located on the north-eastern outskirts of the city centre.
Here, our Manzonian itinerary continues with a visit to Lucia's supposed home, described by Manzoni in the chapter in which the young woman prepares to marry her beloved Renzo with her mother Agnese.
An intimate dwelling in a quiet location, it consists of a linear two-storey building with wooden stairs, a balcony and a courtyard in front. The house is currently a tavern and can therefore only be visited by customers.
It should be pointed out that the Acquate house is not the only one to boast this attribution: contending for the title of Home of Lucia is another old rustic house in Olate, which cannot be visited as it is a private house.
