Church of Don Abbondio
The sacred place where the undecided priest celebrated the wedding of Renzo and Lucia
Founded in 1232, the church of Saints Vitale and Valeria can be traced back to Don Abbondio. Tradition has it that this chapel in Olate, just 50 metres from Lucia's house, is the sacred place where the undecided priest celebrated the wedding of Renzo and Lucia.
Enlarged several times and in different periods, the church still retains the small bell tower built in the 15th century, the only element that survived this first renovation. The nave, remodelled in 1765, is instead the result of restoration work carried out in 1934, the year in which the old 'baroque' style façade was restored.
In addition to Lucia's house, this district of Lecco is also home to an ancient palace built by the powerful Arrigoni family and currently owned by the municipality of Lecco, identified as Don Rodrigo's house.
