The bond with Manzoni’s The Bethrothed is so intense here in Lecco, that it’s difficult to separate literature and reality. From Pescarenico, the fisherman’s village, the tale unwinds.

Tourism Lecco. The place where history and literature intertwine, where local fascination meets an extraordinary tale. Villa Manzoni, the Neoclassical villa of the great author, is the most visited literary museum in the region, full of manuscripts, paintings, and special furnishings. Take a journey back in time, along the lake and the Lucie, flat-bottomed chestnut wood rowboats named in homage to The Betrothed. From here, stop by the Neoclassical Teatro della Società, dating back to 1844.

Uncover the fossils of a dinosaur found near Lake Como behind the walls of the Museum of Natural History in Palazzo Belgiojoso. At the Palazzo delle Paure, in the Lecco Alpine Observatory, there’s a wall-climbing gym and interactive screens to showcase the deep connection between Lecco and its mountains. Soaring peaks enchant between Monte San Martino, in the Grigne of the Orobie Alps, and the Resegone, with its unmistakable profile, which inspired the great Manzoni.

A relationship illustrated in the Museum of the Mountain within the Torre Viscontea, which together with the Ponte Azzone Visconti, along the Adda River, remains an architectural icon of the city.
