In the footsteps of Leonardo walking along Lake Como
A 4-day holiday walking on part of the Leonardo's trail along the eastern coast of Lake Como
The tour offers you a 4-day walk on the hills and mountains along the eastern coast of Lake Como, the so-called branch of Lecco. The “Sentiero del Viandante” is part of the Leonardo’s Trail going from Milan to Switzerland. The whole path (approx. 40 km) is divided into 4 stages whose difference in altitude is varying. It is sometimes quite demanding but at the end it will offer you wonderful views on the lake and on Triangolo Lariano mountains. On the route, you will enjoy traditional cuisine from the Lario region, and you will have the chance to taste local products directly from the farmers. We have selected for you typical and charming hotels and home-stay where to rest and live Italian-style life.
In summer, at the end of the walking day you will enjoy a real Italian ice-cream and a swim in the lake. On request, we can take care of your luggage so that you do not need to carry heavy weight along the path, thus fully enjoying the walk. We hope you will enjoy our country at the utmost!
The “Sentiero del Viandante” (wayfarer trail) is an interesting route dating back to the Roman period and running along the eastern coast of Como Lake (the so-called branch of Lecco), from Abbadia Lariana to Piantedo (in the Sondrio province), approx. 45 km.
All stages can be reached by train as there is a line connecting all villages to Lecco and Milan Central railway station.
Fitted out in 1989, this walking path offers you the chance to enjoy some peaceful hours deep in the calm of the environment as well as wonderful views on the lake. Lake Como panorama has inspired Leonardo da Vinci when painting the background in his worldwide known paintings “Gioconda” and “Last Supper”.
The “Sentiero del Viandante” is well marked by orange signs all along the way (boards as well as painted marks) and will offer you the most attractive and evocative settings of Lake Como, together with its rich vegetation, geological features as well as architectural elements such as historical building, churches, hamlet and farmstead. It’s not demanding, except for some rises allowing you to enjoy extraordinary views on Lake Como and the surrounding mountains.
It is recommended to use proper excursion outfitting. Spring, summer and autumn are the best seasons to enjoy it due to the favorable climate, but you can have pleasant moments even in sunny winter days. On request, you can also have a typical Italian cooking class in a crotto atmosphere.
