Nesso
A fairytale village with scenic waterfalls that enchanted Hitchcock
Nesso is a jewel of Celtic origin overlooking Lake Como, rising where the Tuf and Nosée rivers meet to forming a wonderful waterfall, the Orrido di Nesso.
Around it is the historic centre, divided by the Ponte della Civera, which is Roman in origin and where director Alfred Hitchcock shot a scene for his first silent film in 1925, The Labyrinth of Passions. Here you can fall in love with a fairy-tale panoramic view, reached by 340 steps from the heart of the village.
Nesso is a haven of continuous exploration, to be experienced by strolling through the streets and discovering traces of the past, such as paper mills, spinning mills and water mills. Among the village treasures, besides the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, you can visit the ancient San Lorenzo Castle, perched on a rock spur. After a scenic, historical and cultural immersion, there is nothing better than an aperitif with a poetic panoramic view.
To reach Nesso by car, we recommend the Autostrada dei Laghi (A8) motorway in the direction of Bellagio. You can park at the entrance to the village and then continue on foot, or to the scenic Piazza Castello, for the lucky ones. If you arrive by train, however, your reference point is Como station, from where you can continue with the C30 and C32 bus lines.
