The Beech Tree of the Bugone
The great beech tree appears as a placid gentle giant that protects the forests that envelop the ridge of the Larian Mountains.
Popular for trekking in all seasons, the Via dei Monti Lariani gently accompanies walkers through vast beech forests and offers unforgettable views of Lake Como and the surrounding valleys.
Perfect for a first stop is the Colma del Bugone (1119 m a.s.l.) with its lodge and centuries-old beech tree. The latter really leaves one speechless given its size and beautiful shape.
With an impressive trunk with a circumference of more than 6.5 metres (diameter 210 cm), it astonishes all wayfarers by giving the impression of being an immense guardian of nature and perhaps also of the lake, which it has been observing from above for centuries.
A perfect representative of the tree species that dominates the peaks and slopes of the Monti Lariani, the giant beech tree, with its vast foliage, invites you to sit under its shade and enjoy the peace of the picturesque woods.
The monumental tree thrills all nature lovers, who can easily reach it: in fact, it is only a few minutes' walk from the Monte Bisbino area (1325 m), which hosts a charming shrine and parking areas at the end of the road up from Cernobbio.
A green monument that is accessible to the public.
