The Horse Chestnut of Villa Olmo
The imposing tree, due to its slender elegance and close proximity to the neoclassical architecture of the villa, impresses visitors.
As soon as you pass through the archway on the right of Villa Olmo's grandiose façade, you find yourself enveloped in the colours and atmosphere of Como's most beautiful historic English garden.
And your attention is immediately caught by the large trunk of a beautiful horse chestnut tree. Looking up, one is amazed at the height to which it propels itself with its ideal balance of forms.
With a trunk circumference of 5 metres (diameter 160 cm) and with the top 27 metres above the ground, the tree is one of the most important green monuments in the park. Its position, behind the villa and at the edge of the large lawn that is home to the majestic cedar tree in the garden, also gives it considerable landscape value.
Tree lovers can then wander around the large surrounding green area to discover further natural and architectural treasures.
The Chilometro della Conoscenza (Kilometre of Knowledge), a pedestrian route that joins three splendid Como villas (Villa Olmo, Villa del Grumello and Villa Sucota) through the paths of their respective parks, which are dotted with greenhouses, chapels, lemon houses, works of art and botanical rarities, is also very suggestive.
The nature trail crosses 17 hectares of historic parks of rare beauty and high landscape and historical-artistic value.
A green monument that is accessible to the public during park opening hours.
