The Cedar of Villa Olmo
With its large foliage, incredibly sinuous branches and scenic location, the cedar of Villa Olmo is the most famous tree in Como.
The majestic Villa Olmo is one of the symbols of the city of Como and is one of the most admirable examples of the sumptuous neoclassical mansions overlooking the lake.
Completed at the end of the 18th century, the magnificent palace was then embellished with a splendid garden in English landscape style. The absolute star of the park is undoubtedly the imposing Cedar of Lebanon, which elegantly thrives in the soft grassy slope behind the villa.
The splendid coniferous tree creates a perfect landscape match with the neoclassical architecture and the other scenic elements of the gardens, in particular with the small temple, with which the green lawn where it is located ends.
With a trunk circumference of more than 8.50 metres (diameter of 270 cm) and a height of almost 25 metres, the large cedar fascinates visitors in its magnificence. The large branches then seem to dance sinuously towards the sky, giving the wonderful green monument an even more harmonious appearance.
It is the ideal destination for those who want to enjoy a relaxing stroll from the city centre, first along the lakeside promenade and then through the gardens, amidst architectural and natural wonders.
A green monument that is accessible to the public during park opening hours.
