Selvino
A perfect family destination to visit in any season
Located on the high plain of the same name, Selvino is an oasis of peace, ideal for families and for all mountain enthusiasts and lovers of fun.
A mandatory stop is, without a doubt, the Santuario della Madonna di Perello. Built in the XVI century, legend has it that the Madonna appeared to a local farmer four times, asking him to build her a church. While administratively belonging to Algua, it is considered a destination for pilgrimages and is the most important religious building in the area.
Selvino is also known for its many quartz crystals located in the valleys of Altopiano Selvino Aviatico, which can be found in the rocks, dating back to the quaternary era, covering the mesozoic rocks. The crystals, highly resistant to corrosive agents, are still intact today and can be found in the soil. There are a number of tourists who come to explore the Bosco dei Cristalli in a search for the "Stelle di Selvino". To protect the area only a small amount of quartz crystals can be collected, regulated by a local law.
Not to be missed are the nature-centred activities, many which are perfect for children. The 7 trails of the Selvino Adventure Park, which wind through the trees of Monte Purito are perfect for all kinds of “adventurers”. These are trails that are suspended in the air among the treetops, wooden bridges, ropes and fun zip lines.
Also on Monte Purito are three slides for inflatable rings: children can sit on the rings and slide down to the bottom of the mountain. The exhilarating slide often ends in fun and completely safe tumbles: the protective cushions at the end of the slide are made in soft foam.
More sporty visitors can enjoy hikes of all levels. One of the recommended trails for more experienced hikers is the one leading to Monte Podona, departing from Salmezza. After having passed the church of S. Barbara, a steep slope leads to the grassy crest. Continuing along the hill crest, made mostly of limestone, the 1270-metre summit can be reached, as well as the foresummit, marked with a metal cross and wooden benches with a panoramic view over Selvino and the towns of the lower Seriana valley.
Selvino, however, is best known as a ski resort. Along the slopes of Monte Purito is a ski slope with an artificial snow system. In the summer there is a plastic slope, equipped with a handle-tow ski lift, as well as training.
