Casinò-Teatro di San Pellegrino Terme
Commissioned by the Società Anonima delle Terme and inaugurated in the summer of 1907 after only two years of work, this place was immediately called Kursaal, that is a multifunctional environment in which, in addition to gambling, it was possible to attend concerts and shows, taste coffee, devote oneself to reading and continue the water treatment. In fact, in the entrance hall there were two springs to which the water from the nearby spring flowed. This sumptuous building of 3500 square meters was designed by Eng. Mazzocchi and Arch. Squadrelli. The game attracted many guests, not without moral criticism, but was in force only from 1907 to 1917, the year in which it was discontinued.
What makes the visit of this place so enchanting is the majesty of the internal staircase, the brightness of the stained glass windows, the elegance of the wooden boisserie, the sinuosity of the sculptural groups in bronze and decorative cement, the gracefulness of the frescoes, with the curious zodiac signs, and the lightness of the chandeliers.
It can be accessed only through guided tours. For info 034521020 (San Pellegrino Terme tourist office).
