Rocca d'Anfo
The Rocca d’Anfo marks the opening stage of our lake tour. It is a system of military fortifications that stretches along the western shore of the lake, between Valle Sabbia and Valli Giudicarie.
After decades of neglect, thanks to important restoration work, a few years ago this place was re-opened to the public, offering guided visits and suggestive tours at night. Erected by the Venetian Republic and considerably expanded during the Napoleonic period, it is an element of great historical, cultural and landscape interest and is unique in terms of its value and proportions both regionally and nationally.
Here, through stairways, walkways and underground routes that connect Military Batteries, Barracks and Powder Houses, you will be able to walk back through Italian history in a crescendo of discoveries and emotions, enchanting you with its magnificent panoramic position.
Among the most worthy stops are the Caserma della Gola or Grande and Piazza d'Armi, a 600 m2 19th century building located horizontally at the foot of the upper portion of the Rocca, built and designed at the behest of Napoleon Bonaparte on the model of a Parisian residential palace.
