THE “NONII ARRII“ ROMAN VILLA
Archaeological sites at Toscolano Maderno
The Nonii Arrii’s Roman Villa was one of the most important residential buildings of the Roman age that can be found on Lake Garda. This building rose near the lake shore and its main façade overlooked the lake. Probably, this villa belonged to the Nonii, one of the most important and prominent families in Brescia, who had business interests and vast properties in the lake area and in the surrounding region. Thanks to an inscription found in the villa, it has been attributed to Marcus Nonius Macrinus, who was Roman consul in the year 154, pro-consul of Asia in 170-171 and finally ambassador of the emperor Marcus Aurelius.
