There is a total of nine praying roads known as the Sacred Mountains or Sacri Monti. This land provides numerous religious itineraries, two of which are part of the Unesco World Heritage Sites list in 2003.
It is a succession of chapels built between the XVIth and XVIIth centuries that guide the faithful along both a real and symbolic road in the middle of a landscape that encourages introspection. Each path is divided in 15 stages dedicated to explore various aspects of christian faith.
We would like to mention the value of its architectural structures in our Region and Piedmont, the artistic treasures they harbor and the spectacular backdrop of the western Alps that encircle them in.
The trail that reaches to the Sacro Monte of Varese starts in the district of Sant'Ambrogio to a splendid sight of the zone's plains and lakes, while the one in Ossuccio stands on a slope towering over town, with a wide view of Lake Como and the Comacina Island.
