The Eighth Chapel of the Sacro Monte di Varese, dedicated to the Crowning with the thorns, features an octagonal layout and a cylindrical structure with windows. Steps at the side invite visitors to go up to the portico.

To the sides of the chapel are two more windows, following a layout already used on other chapels in the area. 
Inside, we can admire a sculpted piece by Francesco Silva, showing Christ with a crown of thorns, surrounded by grotesque figures. 
The painting in the top part of the chapel creates the illusion of a dome with loggia, the result of an ingenious effect of perspective by Giovan Battista Recchi.
