Cancano Lakes
Loop routes, alpine views, and sporting events in the mountains of Alta Valtellina.
The Cancano Lakes, located in the Stelvio National Park, are two artificial lakes fed by the waters of the River Adda, the Spöl canal, the Gavia-Forni-Braulio canal and the Viola Bormina river.
The lakes were created for the production of hydroelectric power and can easily be reached from Bormio and Valdidentro following the panoramic, winding road that crosses the Fraele Pass, overlooked by the historic Torri di Fraele.
The area of the Cancano Lakes is perfect for outdoor activities, including excursions, trekking and mountain biking. The route loops around the lakes, offering spectacular views, and it can be enjoyed by everyone, from families to nature enthusiasts. It is also a great place to watch deer during the rutting season.
This area also hosts sporting events, including theEnergy2Run Cancano, a race that attracts large numbers of runners. There are also various cycle meets that make use of the different routes available.
