The 10 Most Beautiful Trees in Varese, The Garden Province

Thanks to its innumerable and incredible historic gardens, both public and private, Varese has earned the epithet of garden city.

Practically everywhere, walking along the streets, imposing trees appear that have now become reassuringly familiar, everyday presences for citizens.

Climbing towards the marvellous Sacro Monte di Varese, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or even higher towards the Campo dei Fiori mountain massif, considered one of the most beautiful panoramic 'balconies' in Italy, one realises that the whole surrounding area of the city is also extremely green.

Large deciduous forests cover not only all the mountainous and hilly areas but also wide flat areas and river valleys, while lakes shimmer on the horizon with their villages on the banks. Seeing this, it is natural to go beyond the concept of a 'garden city' to talk about a 'garden province'.

In this green heritage numerous monumental tree specimens shine, in front of which it is impossible not to be moved. From the great variety of species (even from the other side of the earth) collected in the historical parks of the 19th and early 20th century, to the plane trees and lime trees that adorn squares, avenues and lakeside promenades, lovers of large trees can enjoy green monuments of all kinds.

The journey through these wonders of nature is also an opportunity to discover villas, villages, castles, artistic heritage and unforgettable views of the province of Varese.

It is possible to admire the trees up close as they are all on public land or city parks, therefore accessible during daylight hours.
