Val Masino
Val Masino (787 m a.s.l.) is a narrow valley at its beginning, but then it widens towards East and North-East branching out into the Valle Sasso Bisolo-Preda Rossa and the Val di Mello - which both stretch out at the feet of the mount Disgrazia, the highest peak of the whole area (m 3678) - and towards West into the Valle dei Bagni and the Val Porcellizzo. The Val di Mello has been declared a Natural Reserve by the Region Lombardy thanks to its extraordinary natural beauties. Masino Bagni is an old thermal bath, known since the ancient times, with alkaline radioactive hot water. Val Masino and mountaineering are an inseparable duo. The Pizzo Badile and the many granite colossus, the Sasso Remenno - Europe’s biggest glacial erratic used for rock climbing - and the Sentiero Roma, one of the most beautiful trekking of the Alps. The Val Masino has been the stage for two great sports events for a long time: the Melloblocco, the international bouldering meeting, and the Kima Trophy, the big ski race on the Sentiero Roma.
