The Ginkgo Biloba in the Estensi Gardens
In the lower part of the Estensi Gardens, the part in a romantic style with the monumental fountain (a good 26 m in diameter) and the curving ramps up the hill, the incredible Ginkgo Biloba catches the eye in the autumn months.
Entering the historic park through the archway of the 18th-century Palazzo Estense, it is indeed impossible not to notice on the right the large and lively yellow stain created by the tree leaves.
This very special tree species, considered sacred in Japan, is famous for its healing properties, its resistance (it was even able to survive the atomic bomb in Hiroshima) and the exciting colouring it assumes each autumn.
The most beautiful representative of Varese is this one, with its height of more than 30 metres and a trunk circumference of 370 cm (diameter of 118 cm). Sitting on the bench in the shade of its golden autumn leaves after a walk through the Estensi Gardens is a truly unique experience.
