Torbiere del Sebino
Even during the autumn, you can take advantage of a sunny day to admire the beautiful views of Lombardy with a more sparkling temperature.
The Riserva Naturale Torbiere in Sebino is an excellent destination for a day out in the reeds and lakes in the province of Brescia, on the southern shore of Lake Iseo, in an area whose history goes back billions of years. Not everybody knows that the old name of Lake Iseo was Sebino and that, towards the end of the second geographical age, its waters gradually withdrew to form a muddy depression known as the Torbiere or “peat bog”.
Over thousands of years, the area has seen the growth of flourishing water and wetland plantlife that has given life to a nature reserve of poetic beauty. Whether travelling by train or car, if you want to come to the Torbiere del Sebino, you need to reach Provaglio d’Iseo in the famous Franciacorta area. Once in the Reserve, which covers an area of 360 hectares, there is a charge for entrance, which then provides access to a whole range of walking routes. The atmospheric wooden walkways on the water accompany visitors over the tanks and the strips of land.
The microclimate in the Torbiere del Sebino reserve is perfect for hosting a flourishing biodiversity, with numerous plant species and surprising numbers of animals.
