Sarnico
Rediscover the pleasure of a relaxing and exploratory stroll among the Art Nouveau villas and medieval palaces
Sarno, on the south-western shore of Lake Iseo, is a historically stratified village where medieval palaces and towers meet twentieth-century Art Nouveau villas.
Once surrounded by walls, the oldest section has been retained, in an elevated position, framing the Church of St Paul. From here, descending through the streets of the old town centre, you reach the lakeside promenade, which extends for a few kilometres as far as the bridge to Paratico, where you can see the River Oglio, which, after crossing Lake Iseo, returns to its course, preparing for the journey that will lead it to flow into the River Po.
Further on, the atmospheric Taxodi Forest will enchant you with a walkway suspended over the lake and nestled among the mangroves. You can also see it from Sarnico's lakefront where, if you choose not to cross the bridge, you will find a few little places on the road where you can refresh yourself with an ice cream or an aperitif. This is also the perfect destination for those ending a day of trekking in the Adrara Valley or to the Croce di Predore and Rocca di Zucchellis.
To reach the village, drive along the A4 motorway in the direction of Mi/Ve and exit at Palazzolo sull'Oglio. If you are travelling by train, however, your reference station is Bergamo, where you will find bus the relevant bus service.
