Rotonda di San Lorenzo
La chiesa è una delle tante costruite, secondo tradizione, da Matilde di Canossa
A longstanding tradition dates this church to a commission by Matilda of Tuscany (1046-1115). Formally speaking, it is reminiscent of the models of the palatine chapel of Aachen and the Anastasis in Jerusalem, the two great mediaeval paradigms of central-plan constructions. It certainly is a rare example of Romanesque Po Valley architecture with an ambulatory and women’s gallery adorned with coeval frescoes.
