Codevilla Big Bench #139
The Codevilla bench overlooks the Po Valley and is situated amidst the vineyards on the La Guardia hill, a name dating back to the Napoleonic era when it served as a lookout point for the militia.
This location is undoubtedly one of the most scenic panoramic spots in Codevilla, offering a view of over 180°. On clear days, one can admire the valley with nearby Voghera, the cathedrals of Pavia and Milan; in the background, the Alpine arc is visible, with the Monte Rosa Massif towering above.
Nearby, the town of Codevilla is crowned by the bell tower of the Parish of Bernardo and the characteristic Vinaria Tower (of the Torrevilla Cooperative). To the right is the ancient village of Mondondone, recognizable by its century-old pine grove; the Piana di Codevilla district has an ancient history, believed to be the site of the palace of the Lombard kings according to legend.
To the left, the profiles of the Tortona hills and the Monferrato can be seen, with Monviso in the background. Behind, a small forest that is particularly significant for its biodiversity. The panoramic spot is accessed via a gentle uphill path, crossing vineyards, until reaching the top of the hill. The path continues downhill through vineyards and woodland plots, leading to the ancient hexagonal building of Montelio, a fascinating 19th-century construction.
It is possible to leave the car at the Info Point in the town center and enjoy a pleasant 40-minute uphill walk (2.5 km), or use the small parking spots available a few hundred meters away.
