Valentino Garavani Theatre
The Social Theatre of Voghera dedicated to the great fashion designer
The theatre was designed in 1836 by the Milanese architect Giacomo Moraglia, commissioned by the Theatre Society, and was ultimately built between 1842 and 1845 under the supervision of the Turin architect Gioacchino Dell'Isola del Borghetto, with some modifications to the original design.
The credit for creating the sets, a total of eighteen, goes to Angelo Moia, while the curtain depicting the passage of time was created by the Morgari brothers. The stucco ornaments adorning the theatre's facade were masterfully executed by Giovanni Gibello, a talented artist from Turin. Additionally, a notable bronze bas-relief depicting the famous composer Giuseppe Verdi was created by the Milanese artist Enrico Cassi.
This elegant theatre can accommodate over 400 spectators and has 62 boxes spread across three levels. It was officially inaugurated on April 18, 1845, with the opera "I Lombardi alla prima crociata" by Giuseppe Verdi, becoming the stage for numerous artistic performances over the years. Among the countless artists who performed in this theatre, the name of Arturo Toscanini, one of the most famous conductors in history, stands out.
