Cripta di Sant'Omobono
Inside the Cathedral is the three-naved crypt you can reach going down a short steep staircase. After various repairs the crypt was finally rebuilt in 1614. On that occasion the bodies of nine protectors of the town were placed in reliquaries. In one of these you can admire the body of Omobono Tucenghi, a Cremonese merchant made a saint one year later after his death, and declared patron saint of Cremona in 1643. His body, originally placed in a sarcophagus made in 1614 is now held in an reliquary close to the altar dedicated to him and is venerated by devotees. Saint Omobono’s day is November 13th.
