Church Of Saint Giovanni Domnarum
One of the oldest churches in Pavia
Founded by Gundiperga, the wife of king Rotari (636-652), the church of Saint Giovanni Domnarum, or “delle Signore” (of the ladies) refers to the presence inside the church of a baptismal font reserved for women.
The best-preserved part of the church is the crypt, where we can still see the side of the Corinthian capitals from the late antiquity and others from the thirteenth century with leaves on the corners. The frescoes date from the twelfth century.
Opening hours
The crypt can always be freely visited, without reservations.
Every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
During the celebrations visits at the Cathedral are prohibited (on weekdays 9.30, on public holidays 10.30).
