Weddings on Lake Iseo
Discover the Lake Iseo area: the ultimate wedding destination. Villages, scenery and panoramic views for your fairy-tale wedding.
An incredible location just waiting to be discovered, Lake Iseo is one of the most sought-after wedding destinations for Italians and foreigners alike
Located at the end of the Valle Camonica, surrounded by the Lombard Prealps and boasting the largest lake island in Italy, Lake Iseo offers some of the most enchanting landscapes between Bergamo and Brescia. It is a land of vineyards, hills, bodies of water and nature reserves, where the incredible natural scenery envelops villages and towns brimming with art, culture and incredible gastronomy.
Its generous hospitality, enchanting views, interesting cultural sites, good freshwater fish and celebrated Franciacorta wine have all made this territory a popular destination for soon-to-be-married couples. Whether you are planning a religious or civil ceremony, in a refined villa or a simple farmhouse, getting married on Lake Iseo opens up a whole world of options. In addition to the churches directly overlooking the lake, providing dazzling views and an ideal background for romantic photos, several towns have opened up luxurious venues in recent years for elegant civil ceremonies.
From the Bergamo shore to the Brescia shore, we have put together some of the best locations for a truly memorable wedding on Lake Iseo.
Tie the knot in Lovere, the most romantic village in Italy
With a very long history and an undeniable charm, Lovere sits like an amphitheatre on the western shore of Lake Iseo, offering visitors magnificent views from the mouth of the Valle Camonica and Val Cavallina. Described as "the most beautifully romantic place I ever saw in my life" by the English writer Lady Wortley Montagu, every year this Lombard town is home to the "Lovere, borgo della Luce" initiative, a local government project created to showcase the area's landscapes, architecture and artistic heritage. This event sees artwork projected on the buildings of Lovere to celebrate history's most famous lovers (from Canova's "Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss" to Hayez's "The Kiss").
What better location for your wedding on Lake Iseo?
Climbing up into the hills and overlooking the calm waters of the lake basin, newlyweds and guests alike will fall in love with the historic centre, where they can admire beautiful views and the medieval and Renaissance buildings. For civil ceremonies, couples can choose to celebrate in the Mayor's Hall at the Town Hall or the Concert Hall at the Tadini Palace, home of the Academy of Fine Arts and a beautiful example of Italian neoclassicism. After the ceremony, the picturesque lakefront provides the perfect backdrop for toasts and photos, with views of the surrounding mountains stretching as far as the peaks of Mount Adamello on the opposite Brescia shore. Right at the edge of the water, the charming Piazza XIII Martiri is often compared to the squares of Portofino.
Where time stands still: weddings in Monte Isola
A mountain in the middle of a lake, Monte Isola is only accessible by ferry, with no cars allowed on the island. Encircled by delightful fishing villages, everything in Monte Isola seems to be within easy reach. Thanks to its relaxed way of life and genuine flavours, it is the perfect place to escape and appreciate the little things.
Recognised as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy and recently voted the third best European tourist destination, Monte Isola is the ideal setting for a dreamy and joyful wedding. In terms of locations for civil ceremonies, the undisputed star is Oldofredi castle, a historic residence surrounded by ancient olive trees. Immersed in an aura of charm and mystery, it offers breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Couples who are looking to celebrate their nuptials on Lake Iseo can choose between an inside room, the courtyard and its cloister. When it comes to photo backdrops, the choices are endless: between period buildings, small villages and historic churches, everyone can find their own corner of paradise.
Pisogne, a medieval village with ancient roots
On the north-eastern shore of the lake, there lies a medieval village with a fascinating history, where the homes are built around the ancient market that once dominated the square and port. Welcome to Pisogne, a town straddling Alto Sebino and Bassa Valle Camonica, where the lake meets the mountains. Its typical historic centre, with ancient buildings painted in pastel colours and narrow arcaded streets, is the perfect place to walk and entertain.
This welcoming location is also a great spot for your Lake Iseo wedding. In Pisogne, couples can actually exchange their vows atop the 32-metre Torre del Vescovo in Piazza Mercato, a historic tower dating back to 1250 that was recently authorised for civil ceremonies by the local government. This stirring setting boasts magnificent views, from the lake to the mountains of Alto Sebino.
For religious ceremonies, Pisogne is brimming with artistic treasures. For example, the church of Santa Maria in Silvis features beautiful late fifteenth-century frescoes and the Danse Macabre painted on the counterfacade, while the church of Santa Maria della Neve (also known as the church of Romanino) is one of the most evocative examples of sixteenth-century sacred painting. In fact, the beauty and radiance of its frescoes have earned it the nickname "the Sistine Chapel of the Poor".
Unusual wedding photos: the giant benches of Lake Iseo
A popular destination for visitors to Lombardy, the giant benches are also a quirky choice for wedding photos on the shores of Lake Iseo. Born from the creative mind of Chris Bangle, an American designer who has settled in the Langhe, the Big Bench Community Project was launched to support local communities and encourage tourism: today, there are 100 colourful benches located in various public viewpoints throughout northern Italy.
From Pilzone to Sale Marasino and from Rogno to Riva di Solto/Fonteno, the big benches of Lake Iseo are a chance to unleash your inner child and capture cute wedding pictures with your friends. Emotions can run high on your big day, so be sure to have some fun!
