Val Fontana

Val Fontana is smaller than its more famous neighbours - Valmalenco and Valle di Poschiavo - but it features many interesting itineraries. Do not expect a crowded valley, but rather the charm of pristine, wild and lonely landscapes, crossed by a limited number of paths, but mostly in good conditions.

Itinerary Pian dei Cavalli - Laghi gemelli

Departure point: Pian dei Cavalli (1670 m)
Difficulty: medium
Elevation gain: 660 m
Time: 2.00 ore
Suggested period: June - October

Leave your car right after a wooden bridge, at the beginning of the wonderful Pian dei Cavalli and take a path that runs through a fresh larch wood and then reaches Alpe Arasè, where the mountain tops are in the background of some huts. Cross another larch wood, then the debris left by a landslide and a grassy meadow to get a glimpse of the first lake, while the second can be reached after a short ascent.

After reaching the lake at an elevation of 2325 m a.s.l., fittest hikers might consider reaching the Arasé pass, which leads to Val Poschiavo.
