From Riva di Solto to Fonteno
The Big Bench overlooking the lake
This fascinating route starts in Riva di Solto and winds up into the hills, offering spectacular views of Lake Iseo and the surrounding mountains.
The path takes you through olive groves and woods, leading to the famous giant bench designed by Chris Bangle. It is perfect for those seeking a combination of nature and scenic beauty.
Departure from Riva di Solto
Your journey begins in Riva di Solto, a picturesque village overlooking Lake Iseo, where the blue waters blend with the green hills.
To reach Riva di Solto, you can choose from various transport options. If you are arriving by car, you can park at the "30 Passi" parking lot or in Via Ronchi. If you prefer public transportation, you will find the ferry dock and the C40b bus stop in the center of the village, making it convenient to reach the starting point of your route.
From Via Ronchi, where the trail begins, the path turns into a paved uphill road leading to the start of the dirt trail. Just 300 meters from the start, the path winds through ancient olive trees and a bucolic landscape that sets the tone for the rest of the hike. As you progress, you will skirt Solto Collina, a scenic viewpoint where you can start catching glimpses of your destination.
Towards the Big Bench
As you continue along the trail, you will come across a sign pointing you towards the famous giant bench. In just 300 meters, the trail leads back into the woods, where the shade of the trees will accompany you during the ascent.
As you gain elevation, the panorama unfolds before your eyes. On the left side of the trail, you will enjoy views of Lake Iseo, and if you look carefully, you will spot the green-blue Big Bench No. 53, created by American designer Chris Bangle.
Upon reaching the giant bench, you will be greeted by a breathtaking view. Climbing onto the bench offers an unparalleled panoramic vista of Lake Iseo. To the north, you can admire the Oglio River flowing into the lake between Costa Volpino and Pisogne, and to the east, the majestic Corna Trentapassi peak, which rises to an altitude of 1244 meters. The bench is a popular spot not only for its stunning views but also for the memorable photos everyone loves to take.
The return via trail number 567
For your return, you will follow trail 567, which is surrounded by greenery and will lead you to Fonteno. The landscape changes significantly as you head back towards the village. Along the way, you will pass sites of historical and religious interest, including the Parish of Saints Faustino and Giovita.
Continuing along the trail, you will reach kilometer 5.7, where you will find the sign for trail CAI 567, leading you down to Xino.
From Xino to the starting point
Xino, a small village with a mysterious name and origins, offers new views of the lake and olive fields, enriching your walk further. As you continue, the trail passes through forested areas and rural landscapes.
At around the eighth kilometer, you will encounter a steep descent that will eventually bring you back to the starting point in Riva di Solto, completing your hike through the natural beauty of the Bergamo area.
