Downtown Cremona is full of landmarks and monuments you should definitely visit. We recommend to stay here for a couple nights.

It is worth staying if only for the square of Piazza del Comune, which hosts the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Torrazzo, the Gallery known as Loggia dei Militi and the City Hall. Do not be afraid of facing the Torrazzo's 502 stairs and you will be rewared with an astonishing view over the Po, plus the road you already traversed and the one ahead. Its culinary tradition is equally rich: do not go away without tasting some marubini, a type of pasta filled with braised meat, cremonese salami, grana padano cheese and nutmeg.
If you arrive by late june, remember that on the 29th there is a traditional fireworks spectacle. Leave Cremona behind and head into a land that resembles the one from the previous stage. Stop by Ca' de Gatti for a few minutes and gaze upon the small lagoon formed by the swirling action of the Po river waters when they overflow.
You will see the Po again at Casalmaggiore, at the middle of this itinerary.
