MUDEC
Multidisciplinary center dedicated to the cultures of the world, in the former Ansaldo area, in real monuments of industrial archeology
The MUDEC - Cultures' Museum is one of the latest entries in the Milanese museum scene.
It opened in october 2015 and it is located in a building of via Tortona, a pioneering industrial structure that was the industrial headquarters of historical engineering company Ansaldo. It serves nowadays as an innovative exhibition area.
Smooth, yet edgy shapes and unique lighting effects distinguish its facade, which in itself provides a striking visual impact.
This modern building encompasses a 1700 square meters exhibit area that faces a vast, contemporary covered square, used primarly for large temporary exhibitions. Among the first ones that enjoyed great success with he public, we would like to mention Gauguin, racconti dal paradiso and Barbie: the icon.
Permanent collections are of great importance along with their stocks, centered mainly in non European artefacts from private collections or gathered from the stored items of the Sforza Castle.
There are multiple showcasing sections: Africa, China and Japan, Islamic art, South East Asia and etnographic musical instruments. Furthermore, an exhibition area is dedicated to expressions of the avant guarde artistic movement.
It is worth mentioning particular activities dedicated to children in order for them to approach different world cultures (MUDEC Junior).
