Marmots Park in Chiareggio
At the entrance of Chiareggio live the marmots. They are free to go wherever they want and you can approach them without problems. They even come to eat near you ..... incredible!
Marmots are animals that live in the alpine pastures between 2000/3000 meters of altitude and lead a very active life in spring and summer gorging themselves with food so that in the first colds they can be well-fed, ready to face the lethargy that can last even 7 months. In summer they live in large burrows dug by themselves giving shelter to the whole family. At the first cold they migrate at lower elevations digging burrows that will fill with tender grasses and roots. They will block the entrance to avoid the excessive cooling winter. Once the hibernation is over, the mating begins. The gestation period lasts about 35/42 days, and they will have 4 to 5 babies per couple.
If you want to spend a day getting to know this nice and curious animal, you can find it at the entrance of Chiareggio, on the right side, near the new Geological Park.
Don't forget to respect this wild animal and, if you want, you can even offer it a carrot. And, above all, don't leave your camera at home!
