Parco delle incisioni rupestri di Grosio
In the Parco delle Incisioni Rupestri di Grosio visitors can admire artefacts that have been preserved from prehistoric times to today, in a singular natural context.
Here ancient peoples left traces of their passage, engraving in the rock representations of their daily lives.
Visiting this park shows the most ancient part of the history of Valtellina.
This is a journey back in time, starting with the Metal Age, through the over 5000 figures represented on the Rupe Magna and the artefacts found in archaeological digs in the hills of Grosio, now on display at the Antiquarium.
The park is located in a beautiful natural landscape dominated by majestic chestnut trees, a fundamental resource for the people of Valtellina since ancient times, as a source of food and wood.
Near the Parco are also a number of natural phenomena such as the “Bosco Ripariale”
Near the Rupe Magna and on the same rocky surface vegetation can be seen living in shallow soil and in a very hot and dry climate: mosses and lichens.
There are also a number of species of grasses, succulents belonging to the Opuntìa family and bushes of Breckland thyme.
