A performance that brings to the stage an incredible web of events, featuring film, music and literature. The involvement of the 40-year-old Prokof'ev for the music of the film The Lieutenant Kijè, his first soundtrack, was part of the strategies to get the composer back into Stalin's USSR, which actually happened a couple of years after the film's release in 1936. Set in the years of Tsar Paul I, a suspicious autocrat at odds with his mother Catherine, the film tells of the 'creation', through a copying error, of an officer who never existed, mocking the dullness of the military bureaucracy. The film was not a great success, but the long story by Jurij Tynjanov from which it was based, and which grew out of an earlier screenplay commissioned from the writer as early as the second half of the 1920s and never realized, is a true small literary masterpiece; even the film's score was reworked by Prokofiev and had a life of its own in the beautiful Suite for Orchestra Op. 60. Tynjanov's tale and Prokof'ev's music meet again in this original production that opens the Musical Season of the Lario Orchestral Academy.
