Cliff climbing in Sondrio and Valmalenco

In Campo Moro there are several cliffs: the inert materials deposit and the Zoia cliffs can live up to anyone's expectations.  The Zoia cliff is a great natural gym for those wanting to train and improve one's skills in a unique natural environment.
Here it's likely to meet the best athletes at international level.
Cliff climbing is also practised in Val Poschiavina, Campo Moro, at the Torrione Porro and Sentinella della Vergina, close to the Porro and Ventina huts.

ZOIA CLIFFS

Access: depart from Campo Franscia and take the Enel road up to Campo Moro (7 km); leave your car at the parking of Rifugio Poschiavino. The reddish walls are visible from the parking.

CHIAREGGIO

Chiareggio, in Valmalenco, is among the most turist destinations in the Alps, the cradle of mountaineering and seat of some famed mountaineering schools.

In the postwar period some walls started to be used as climbing gyms.

In the mid-70s, free climbing gained momentum and climbers found here the ideal playground where they could explore the new climbing phylosophy and tecniques.

Thanks to the evolution of sport climbing,  new and more challenging walls were found out.

Over the last few years, the climbers' playgroud broadened thanks to the revival of bouldering, that is climbing small rocks scattered over a plain between Chiareggio and Rifugio Gerli-Porro.

All the walls described above are to be found in a high-altitude mountain environment of great beauty - ranging from the boulders in Senevedo at an altitude of 1500 m a.s.l. to the plain in Chiareggio and to the pastures of Alpe Ventina, at 2000 m a.s.l.

SASSELLA AREA

Access: Just a few steps away from Sondrio - follow Strada statale 38. From Milano towards Sondrio: at the end of the shopping area in Castione Andevenno, take the the second exit on the roundabout, you'll see the wall on your left. From Sondrio towards Milano: after the end of the bypass road of Sondrio, take the first exit on the rounabout.
