Trekking to the Medici mountain hut under the Presolana Mountain
If you are planning to visit the Presolana Pass, you are about to discover a magnificent corner of the Orobie Alps.
The Presolana Pass is a great starting point for your adventure and is easily accessible by both public transport and car. Once you arrive, you will find a large parking area where you can leave your vehicle.
Between Seriana Valley and Scalve Valley
The Presolana Pass is the meeting point of two very different valleys: Seriana Valley and Scalve Valley. Seriana Valley is characterized by a wide valley floor, surrounded by green mountains and hills, while Scalve Valley is narrower, with steep and rugged slopes. This diversity creates a truly fascinating and varied landscape.
To begin your route, follow the road closed to traffic, which gradually ascends. This road is well-marked and even includes an explanatory sign in Braille, making the path accessible to everyone. Follow trail 315, which will take you to Medici mountain hut, formerly known as Cassinelli hut, in about 45 minutes.
If you are feeling adventurous, you can continue up to the summit of the Presolana, but keep in mind that this part of the route is recommended only for experienced hikers.
As you climb, you will notice that the path changes: it starts as a paved road, then becomes a dirt track, leading into the shade of a pine forest. This shaded section makes the walk cooler and more enjoyable. After tackling a left hairpin turn, keep heading northwest on the trail, which will steadily guide you toward the mountain's summit.
The Queen of the Orobie towards Cassinelli mountain hut
After passing the second kilometer, look up to see the Queen of the Orobie: the Presolana summit, dotted with white depending on the season. From here, you are just 10 minutes away from reaching Cassinelli mountain hut.
The final stretch is less steep, taking you through thinning pines and offering a perfect view of the refuge and the peak behind it. This is the ideal spot to take a memorable photo and recharge your energy.
Once you have soaked in the views and enjoyed some rest, you can descend via the Via Cassinelli. While the initial part of the descent may seem a bit challenging, it gradually becomes easier and will take you smoothly back to your starting point.
Be sure to take your time to enjoy the scenery and regain strength along the way. Have a great hike and enjoy exploring this beautiful part of the Orobie Alps!
