During the middle ages, the territories of San Benedetto Po and Pegognaga were owned by the Canossa Family. In particular, Matilde di Canossa became an important figure, who became the force behind the architectural renewal of this area.

The itinerary begins and ends in Pegognaga. From the side of the church of San Lorenzo in Pegognaga, head toward the park that bears its name until you reach Bondanello. From here follow the bicycle path, which flanks left the Secchia, until you reach the junction with the road with the flower boxes. Heading back on a secondary road you'll arrive at San Benedetto Po. Here, you'll go over the embankment of the river and then take the path of the Po, which you will take until Portiolo. Then ride on the side of the road and then on secondary roads, you'll find yourself back in Pegognaga.
