From Brallo di Pregola (949 m), along the provincial road 88, you reach the hamlet of Bralello (0.8 km, 1000 m) in about 15 minutes. The path crosses the small hamlet and descends on a mule track towards the Bosco dei Giganti, a beautiful forest of centuries-old chestnut trees.

The chestnut tree forms extensive forests in mountainous areas between 300 meters and 1000 meters in altitude. It is a tree with a beautiful trunk and almost round canopy. It is a plant that can live for several centuries and reach large sizes; in some cases, it can have a circumference of several meters and an age of over 700 years.

After passing through the chestnut grove, the descent becomes steeper and continues until reaching the ruins of the Mulino dei Cognassi (750 m). The Mulino dei Cognassi was a stone structure with a farmhouse and a stable, with a large meadow in front. The characteristic of this mill was its very narrow wheel, nearly ten meters high, still clearly visible today. This wheel was powered by water from the Fosso del Freddo, which originates at Cima Colletta, then flows into the Rio Montagnola and eventually into the Torrente Staffora near Fego. Continuing, you cross the Montagnola stream several times, and in about 30 minutes, you reach the Grotta dei Briganti (3.3 km, 698 m), formed by huge granite boulders.

The boulders rise above a small clearing not far from the village of Fego, leaning against each other to form a shelter that can hold several people. In the past, it was the secret refuge of bands of brigands who, after attacking a caravan or a poor traveler, would hide in the cave, knowing that no one would dare to climb up here to search for them. From the cave, continue for about 15 more minutes, cross the Rio Montagnola one last time, and reach the village of Fego (4.3 km, 676 m).
