The Route of the 2021 Giro d’Italia in Oltrepò Pavese
For all cycling enthusiasts, an unmissable itinerary along the final 38 km of the 18th Stage of the 2021 Giro d’Italia, won by Alberto Bettiol.
Oltrepò Pavese played a key role in this stage, which started in Rovereto and ended in Stradella after 228 kilometers.
The route begins on the Strada Statale 10 Padana Inferiore, turning towards Zenevredo on Strada Provinciale 85 and then towards Montù Beccaria on Provinciale 134. Continuing along Provinciale 43, it reaches Roncole, then Montescano, and Castana.
From there, the route heads towards Ca’ De Barbieri, taking Provinciale 162, then 198 and 46, passing through Scorzoletta and Cigognola, before reaching Broni.
Next, the climb along Provinciale 45 leads to Canneto Pavese, followed by a descent onto SP 201, leading to the final straight in Stradella.
The climb towards Zenevredo is not particularly steep, but the road is narrow and winding. After reaching Montù, the descent is technical, leading to the "bottle" roundabout, where the next climb to Montescano and Castana begins. In Casa Barbieri, the course features a 4th-category King of the Mountain (GPM) checkpoint.
From Castana, the descent leads to the hamlet of Scorzoletta in Pietra de’ Giorgi. After the challenging descent from Bosco Casella, the route follows a false flat in Valle Scuropasso up to the Cigognola sports field. There, the route turns left towards the toughest climb, Panizza.
A final descent takes riders through the center of Broni, where the intermediate sprint offers time bonuses. The last climb leads to Canneto Pavese before the fast descent to the finish in Stradella.
