Between Montichiari and Carpenedolo along the Fossa Magna
This itinerary takes you through some Brescian towns located along the famous Fossa Magna, a channel that runs through Brescia.
It was built by Bernabò Visconti and initially started from the river Chiese. The path of the Fossa Magna, which goes through Montichiari, Carpenedolo and Borgo San Giacomo, was partially covered in the nineteenth century, especially in the centre of Carpenedolo, though its remaining parts still offer an equally naturalistic landscape to observe.
From Piazza Santa Maria in Montichiari ride on via Trieste and then turn on via Matteotti towards Pieve di San Pancrazio and we head toward Via Fornace, a dirt road. You'll move onto the other side of Fossa Magna, heading towards the Fontanelle sanctuary. Here, take the asphalt road up to the ruins of an ancient agricultural complex and at the first homes of Carpenedolo turn left.
Continue up to the centre of town. From Via Fusetti merge onto Via della Bruciata that heads into the fields. Continue onto the asphalted Via Sacca. When you arrive at the roundabout follow the walking/cycling path that takes you to the centre of Montichiari.
