This route, which is easy and completely flat, covers a large portion of the agricultural territory of Carbonara al Ticino; along its course, you are fully immersed in the typical landscape of the Lomellina region.

Two thousand years ago, this area was covered by forests and marshes, which made life difficult for the populations living there. Over the years, human activity has transformed these lands, making them fertile and welcoming. As you travel along the country roads, you find yourself surrounded by a geometric mosaic of cultivated fields, where once corn, wheat, and barley alternated, but now the symbol of Lomellina, rice, predominates.

Interspersed with the fields are large Lombard farmhouses, notable for their architectural and historical value. Among these, we highlight Cascina Caselle and Cascina dei Frati. According to popular tradition, often bordering on legend, these two farmhouses are connected through mysterious underground tunnels to the former convent of Santa Maria a Torre de' Torti (located in the municipality of Cava Manara, about ten kilometers away), believed to have been a place of worship for the Knights Templar.

It is well documented, however, that around the Year 1000, these lands were crossed by numerous pilgrims heading to Pavia and then, via the Via Francigena, to Rome. For them, the farmhouses represented a safe resting point, and among them, the important settlement of Cascina Campomaggiore is remembered, which houses an ancient chapel dating back to the 1700s. The ring also passes through the village of Carbonara (known since the 13th century as Carbonaria and associated with the fief of Gropello Cairoli) and the small hamlet of Sabbione.

Noteworthy is the location of Canarazzo on the banks of the Ticino, where a large gravel beach overlooks a picturesque bend of the river.
