Christmas is shining in Cremona

Shopping, street markets, Christmas lights, events

If you raise your head you can see them. They are standing still in the sky, waiting for a photo which can represent the entire Christmas Season. Christmas is coming to town.

The lights, a sweet caress on the town, a golden flash on the stones, on the doors.
The little lights are swinging in the air, a little fresh air is blowing in the night: it’s the sunset, it’s the end of another day.
And the lights keep shining, all around, even on the Cathedral’s churchyard. There is the famous Torrazzo nearby, the clock is till moving and the tower, as an ancient comet shows the way, out of the little streets till the Municipality’s Square. The torches are enlightened and they are waiting for you, like small flashes in the windows of the Town Hall. Small shadows behind the closed windows.

The entire town becomes a hut. A Christmas crib in every corner: light colours, the red on the roof and the grey in the sky.

The wood is still alive under the violin-maker’s gouge. The last varnishing and then, the violin is ready.  Is it a gift for someone? Is it a musical instrument for a musician? It is a soul hanging from a rope, a magic atmosphere behind the iron gate of a hidden courtyard.

The heat of the straw cuddles a new spirit, a new life for the town’s squares. The churches are enriched by their frescos. Jesus is painted next the Holy Lady. The strength of every birth. The Christmas joy. A single day. One entire day.

It comes to life in Cremona, your beloved Christmas. The beauty was born here. It tastes like the honey and the almonds, like the spicy fruit and the boiled meat. It smells like the spruce and the fir. It plays the sweet sound of a violin. It is a secret whispered to a child and then told to all the people who pass by. Here in Cremona there is still someone who knows that Christmas comes back every year.
