Near the old Piazza Vecchia square, labelled by Le Corbusier as the most beautiful one in Europe, stands the Cathedral of Sant'Alessandro, guarding the remains of the saint. The facade is the result of restoring works done in the eighteen hundreds, while it is possible to watch a XVIth century cross and a wooden altarpiece inside. 

Among the churches in Lombardy of great importance, the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica is definitely worth visiting. It is connected to the Colleone chapel, displaying frescos by Tiepolo.

Furthermore, consider visiting churches like the Franciscan Church of Graces with XIXth C. paintings and the San Bartolomeo one, with the Martinengo altar by Lorenzo Lotto. The one at the Hospital was painted by Carlo Innocenzo Carloni.
