Virtual trip to Lecco: nature and art

An online journey in and around Lecco: a panoramic journey along the Sentiero del Viandante, a visit to the Planetarium and a trip to the Museo Urbano Lecchese. Discover all the activities.

With spring in full bloom, everyone wants to get out of town and explore the countryside, soaking up the warm rays of sunshine after the cold winter months. It won't be long before we can enjoy the area's natural beauty again, but in the meantime we can bring a bit of nature into our homes. These are our recommendations for a virtual nature trail in the province of Lecco.

"Aerial" hiking on the Sentiero del Viandante

One of the most scenic routes in Lombardy, the Sentiero del Viandante stretches between the mountains and the eastern shore of Lake Como. This route runs along the length of the Lecco side of the lake from Abbadia Lariana to Colico, covering a total distance of about 48 km. It is usually split into 3 or 4 stages, depending on your fitness level. The Lecco-Colico railway line allows you to cover one stage at a time, returning by train to the starting point.

Perfect all year round because of its exceptional location, this path has ancient roots: it's actually based on the network of old mule tracks that once connected the villages along the coast from the 8th century. Originally it was called Via Regia or Via Ducale and, later, Via Napoleona, in reference to the extension works from the Napoleonic period.

The Associazione Cammino di Sant'Agostino is offering an original "virtual hiking" experience of the Sentiero del Viandante to take in some of the breathtaking views that can be admired along the way: a 10-minute aerial tour of a magnificent panorama, from the comfort of your own home. The poetic background music of the Blue Danube by Johann Strauss completes the experience. Other routes for nature lovers are also available on the same YouTube channel.

Journey through the stars at the Lecco Planetarium

Staying with the theme of nature, let's take a look at the stars and planets. For science lovers, the Lecco Planetarium is offering a wealth of new content, as we can currently only travel in our imagination. The videos are available on the Gruppo Astrofili Deep Space - Lecco YouTube channel and range from videoconferences on asteroids and the solar system to children's activities (science is a great way to encourage creativity). The site also features spectacular photos from space, trivia and cartoons to explore the stars and have fun.

Sistema Museale Lecchese- SIMUL

To round off this little visit to the Lecco area, lets make time for some art. Even though the museums are closed to the public at the moment, you can still enjoy the extensive collection of the Si.M.U.L. Museums  online. Every day from Monday to Friday, you can take a "Guided tour" to discover one of the exhibits, a room, or simply some interesting facts about the history of the museums. You can also admire some of the collections available on social networks: to have a closer look at them just follow the relevant pages on Facebook and Instagram, which are both keep up to date with detailed information about the exhibits, for an unforgettable cultural experience. Don't forget to visit the Museo Manzoniano, a traditional "museum house" dedicated to the life and works of Alessandro Manzoni, the most important Italian writer of the 1800s.
